Côte d'Azur

I'm just outside of Nice on the Côte d'Azur today. Never booked into an hotel before and not been able to find the bed - it turned out to be a bed-settee. Hardly surprising when you consider the price is 45 Euros a night. Thank God it's only one night.

70 Euros for a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport (licenced highway robbery), and the bugger went the wrong way (he didn't realise I had Waze running). I told him pretty swiftly just as soon as he went off-course. Full of Gallic apology and shoulder shrugging!

Can't believe the price of wine here - even with the low value of sterling. Got a bottle of Fitou (somewhat menial, but quaffable) for under 5 Euros. The damned corkscrew was more expensive at 6 Euros.

Nice view from the hotel though, but hideously unreliable internet connection - you'd think you were in the 3rd World.

Rather than going out for dinner I went to a local supermarket and purchased a delicious concoction of leeks, onions, potatoes, pork and goat's cheese to go with the wine I'd bought earlier. 3 minutes in the microwave and voila! Under 600 calories - except for the bottle of wine, obviously (part of my 5 a day).

Doesn't look too appetising in the photo, but I assure you it was heavenly. Our supermarkets are horrid by comparison to continental ones. Such choice from freshly made produce that would easily pass for  home-made.

Oh well, home tonight, but too late to go out to dinner.
