Misled - How?

Trump keeps insisting the BBC edit “misled” people. Misled them how, exactly? The documentary aired years after the event, long after the world had watched his speech, the march and the violence unfold in real time. The only thing the edit compressed was the gap between two genuine quotes. The meaning stayed exactly as he delivered it on the day.

And the real giveaway is what happened afterwards. Trump’s own behaviour proved his intent far more clearly than any splice could ever do. He sat watching the attack on television for hours before saying anything. He called the rioters “very special”. He promised pardons, then granted them. That is not the conduct of a man misrepresented by editing. That is the conduct of a man pleased with the outcome.

The missing white flash did not change his message. The timing did not change his message. The events that followed simply confirmed what the message had always been. He was even impeached for it.

If Trump wants to complain about being misled, he should take it up with the only person who has ever truly revealed his intent, both on the day and in the years that followed - Donald J Trump.
