Walking around Milford Haven, I noticed something rather odd.
The LNG jetty is there. You can see it. Satellite imagery shows it. Ordnance Survey mapping shows it. Ships berth at it. I was under the bloody thing.
Yet on one Google map layer, it simply vanishes.
This is not some forgotten fishing quay. Milford Haven contains 2 of Britain’s 3 LNG import terminals and is a rather important part of the country’s energy infrastructure.
Presumably it is just a mapping anomaly - different datasets, simplified mapping, perhaps some peculiar treatment of industrial infrastructure.
But there is something wonderfully modern about a vast LNG terminal, handling a significant chunk of Britain’s gas supply, being physically impossible to miss while apparently not existing on the map.
Perhaps energy policy works the same way.
