Venus and Mars

Overheard in a shop at the weekend:

Woman: "Well, where should we go?"

Man: "Anywhere you want, dear."

Woman: "How about the park?"

Man: "Oh, no - we went there last weekend."

Woman: "OK, how about the Mall'"

Man: "Oh, do we have to - I don't like it there."

This went on for several iterations with the man objecting to every suggestion.

Overheard while watching The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King:

Chairman: "He was typecast as a hobbit after these films."

Hay: "With your teeth you could only get a role as an Orc in this film, or possibly your feet could be hobbit foot stunt doubles."

Hay can be quite cutting - when I forgot to make her tea the other morning she called me Memory Man.

I imagine that Hay is probably right fifty percent of the time as you are wrong... not that it has great bearing on the state of the world. Unless of course you happen to follow some obscure connectivity studies - do you ?
In which case you can put a name on it because I am too lazy to do so.
Anyway we are off out to visit darkest Clare while the sun still shines on this Samhain bank holiday.

Strangely enough, I'm reading Niall Ferguson's new book on networks.

Have a good time out. Is the weather in Clare any better than Mayo? Seems the current forecast in Mayo is the same as we had during our entire week there in the summer.

The wettest place in Ireland is the area of the Maumturk and Partry mountains of counties Mayo and Galway, which receive annually over 2400 mm of rain. So I think that Clare for sure is a tad better! Plus it has the sea on one side and the river Shannon as Lough Derg on the other.
