Magisterial

I'm not in favour of Scottish independence, but Ian Blackford's performance in the House of Commons yesterday was magisterial. He told the truth and was censured for it. I just wish all those who agreed with him that Johnson is a liar and had misled Parliament had walked out of the chamber with him. That said, Boris would probably have taken advantage of the absences to rush through a quick vote to make him PM for Life.

Johnson even lied when he accused Starmer of not prosecuting Jimmy Savile - Starmer had nothing to do with the decision. Surrey Police in 2007 and 2008 investigated three complaints that Saville had sexually abused young girls. It led to Savile being interviewed, under caution, but not arrested and police decided not to charge the former BBC presenter because none of the victims were prepared to support any police action, including testifying in court and thus there was no realistic chance of a prosecution. Johnson should be recalled to the Commons to correct his statement.

I'm torn as to whether Johnson should go - on the one hand, him staying in place would guarantee the Conservatives becoming unelectable for a generation. On the other though, there's the incalculable damage he could inflict on the UK in the next 2 years. The damage, if caused through policy, could be reversed though.

As for Johnson focusing on the big things, I'm not convinced that he's capable of handling the big things - he's a Pound Shop Churchill with narcissistic personality disorder.

When all's said and done, I'm not a sadist and the quicker he goes the better, even if it gives the Conservatives time to claw themselves back from the precipice. However, if any of the current Cabinet replace him, it will be more of the same.
