The aphorism Don't Change Horses Midstream is attributed to Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War.
It's sensible wisdom if things are going reasonably well and in the right direction; however, is it not wise to avoid drowning by changing the 3 legged horse for a 4 legged one if a tidal wave of disaster is heading downstream to engulf you, or the horse you're on is actually a donkey?
It can easily be used as a plea by a lame horse to stay in control. The only time it has a ring of truth is if small corrections can be made, but not when chaos reigns and it's getting worse.
