Logistics

Battles are won or lost on the basis of logistics.

It seems Kyiv, which is the seat of government, is about to be surrounded, cutting it off from all logistical support. That's a plain and simple fact which makes Russian victory a matter of time.

Question: if no other country is at war with Ukraine or Russia, could relief flights over Kyiv be accomplished? Ukraine is not Russian airspace, but I wouldn't put it past Putin to shoot down any aircraft that entered it under the pretext of a mistake.

Question: Kyiv is important to Putin, not because of the people there, but because the government is there. If the government is evacuated before Kyiv is surrounded and relocates to a town on the Polish border, it could not be surrounded by the Russians without entering Polish, and therefore NATO territory, leaving logistical lines protected.

Question: if Kyiv, under the above scenario, is no longer the capital (the government no longer being there), could the population be protected by the Ukrainian government, in its new location on the Ukrainian side of the Polish border, ceding Kyiv to Poland? Kyiv would then become a Polish enclave within Ukraine, and therefore NATO territory. Any Russian forces entering it would be declaring war on a NATO member state. Relief flights over Kyiv would also be possible to keep the population fed.
