Here are a few pictures of the Earth House AirBnB place we stayed in while at Lee Bay.
Three sides of the 'house' have earth banked up against them, being built into a natural incline. It was built by a chap who contracted cancer and didn't manage to finish it. The current owners bought it 90% complete and finished off the inside themselves.
The roof is fibreglass and flat - whether it will eventually degrade from UV action remains to be seen, but flat rooves are notorious for eventually leaking and are best avoided, if possible.
The cladding on the front elevation is laquered pine. I would have chosen oak and ditched the laquer as maintenance is a chore, especially in a highly exposed marine environment where it has to be stripped and revarnished annually for the best protection and effect.
A really innovative house in a fantastic location with panoramic views over the sea and the Lee Valley. It's not known as 'Sunsets' for nothing.

Part of the roof seems to be finished differently to the rest.
Roger - I think it's a treatment.
