Tackling Putin

If the West abandons Ukraine then we have learned, from Putin himself, that he'll be sufficiently emboldened to start picking off countries that were once part of the Russian Empire, one by one, sequentially.

However, what would happen if the countries that were formerly part of the Russian Empire openly invited Putin in - simultaneously?

While Putin could probably handle sequential insurrection, he certainly couldn't handle insurrections, which would surely follow, on all fronts simultaneously, leading to his regime's implosion. Political ju-jitsu.

Purely hypothetical, of course, as Latvia is a Nato member now.

That said, the election results show that he's inflated the number supporting him because whatever he's planning needs more than the usual 70% he fixes election wins at. He needs to create, through this election ritual, the impression internally that there's almost total unanimity for his actions. The audience is internal, not external and it's not just a piece of amateur theatrics - there's a purpose.

You can bet your bottom dollar that whatever he's planning involves terror and a significant escalation of military activity. Remember that democratic politicians love using a war as an election tool; Putin uses elections, albeit ritualised ones, as a war tools.
