Mrs Queen

On Friday we took the Coastliner bus from Thornton le Dale to York for a day out. Hay spotted what she thought was Mrs Queen in one of the niches on the Minster, and yes, she was there.

I meant the Old Mrs Queen, naturally, not that Parker Bowles woman, who merely pretends to be Mrs Queen.

She could be there for a thousand years, by which time she could be known as Elizabeth the Great.

Why are people getting so upset about Charles and Princess Catherine not being in the public eye and there not being enough Royals to fulfil Royal duties? There were kings in the past who only had one child and Elizabeth I had none. Queen Victoria famously retreated from public life for the best part of 10 years after Albert died, and no-one filled in for her at supermarket openings.

If the number of Royals has to increase in order to fulfil all the public needs, when perhaps the number of engagements need to be trimmed. There again, having such a large number of engagements could be a strategy by the Royal Family to make them relevant in the 21st century, which is more likely the case.

Very restrained of you. I'm impressed.
