A Win

I had a snipe on a rather nice 1930s HMV room heater on eBay. I first saw one of these at Coleton Fishacre, which is a house built in the 20s by Lutyens in the Arts and Crafts style for Rupert D'Oyly Cart, the theatre impresario, and now owned by the National Trust. These are photos of the heater in the house, along with the room it's in from when we visited a couple of years ago.

The one at Coleton Fishacre wasn't even in working order and I've seen one previously on e-Bay converted to a lamp going for over £300. They're a design classic and reminiscent of the spaceship in Flight of the Navigator.

Here's the one I won yesterday, paying £155 on a snipe of £205. It's fully functional too. They were designed in 1934 by Christian Barman, an architect and industrial designer, and manufactured by HMV in 1938. There's one in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

An absolute bargain and must be one of only a handful left.
