Lux Sensor

My Lux Sensor has arrived, but there's one problem; it doesn't have a battery and is kept charged by a USB connection with a very short lead.

The short USB lead isn't necessarily a problem but, given it has to be used indoors, I don't have a south-facing window in which to place it for optimum effect, so it's going to fall into shade during the key hours of 11:00 - 13:00.

That also isn't necessarily a problem, as I can measure the lux from the chosen position as the sun moves around the house, using a position that's in the shade during the critical hours. The amount of light, even within a north-facing window, will vary according to whether the south is sunny or not.

Calibration will obviously take a few days and it will be necessary to wait for suitable weather conditions.

Why is being in the shade a problem??
