Witch Hunt

Here's my take on why some are shouting that Boris and Trump are subject to a witch-hunt. They actually don't believe it, but are forced to maintain the pretence.

Very few in number are those who, when proven wrong, are gracious about it and learn from it. Many will admit to themselves they are mistaken or wrong and they will rarely repeat the mistake with another.

Some, however, will never admit they are wrong, even if they know they are, especially in the political arena.

They're not ignorant of the truth, but resisting it, because acknowledging it is a threat to their political agency. It's part of the current Culture War Warrior identity and lacks any intellectual argument. They have no choice but to hold the position they do, repeating the tropes, even while knowing them to be false, seeing things through the distorting lens of the Culture War, which is a metaphorical stake in the ground that tethers them to necessary falsehoods, 'alternative' facts and outright lies.

Accusations of conspiracy against all the institutions that hold these disgusting people to account, such as judges, the police, lefty lawyers, the civil service 'Blob', etc, etc, are all part of this framing. Trump and Johnson, among others, are simply anti-democratic demagogues who call on democracy selectively, when it favours them and seek to thwart it when it doesn't.

Whenever Johnson and Trump start banging on about witch-hunts I keep expecting to see women in pointy hats with a broomstick in one hand and a placard in the other saying "Nothing to do with me mate".

I received this comment from one of them in 2016 : "It’s time for people to understand that government USA bunch of lying devils. Trust God and Trump in that order. God is using President Trump to expose the truth about these lying devils like God used Noah, Moses and Abraham."
