Is anyone else terminally confused by British Gas' electricity billing system?
Here's the blurb from their website:
Your balance is the amount from your last statement plus any recent payments you've made and minus any refunds we've credited back to you. It doesn't include the cost of energy you've used since your last statement.
For example: Statement balance = £100
Payments = £50 (This may include payments that are due a few days before they’re received from your bank)
Refunded payments = £20
Actual Balance = (£100 + £50) - £20 = £130
How can a balance statement not include how much you've used since the last bill? It's bloody illogical. It's a bit like the Two Ronnies sketch where Corbett answers the last but one question.
Luckily I keep track of my own bills by taking daily readings and applying the tariff, but not everyone does that.
