Waxed Cheese Rip-Off

A bit of a gripe for the New Year.

For Christmas, someone gave us a selection of Snowdonia Cheese Company truckles of their waxed cheeses; however, half the damned things are wax. It's so thick that you have to use a lot of effort to cut into it - it's between 3mm and 5mm thick, depending on where you put your micrometer.

We had a Black Bomber and one with truffles in it. Both are delicious, but when you consider the amount of wax and the price, it's a bloody rip-off. They should supply the wax with wicks inserted into it so you can at least use it as candles.

The wax is meant to protect the cheese, not of sufficient thickness to make it almost impossible to get to the cheese. Edam and Gouda are renowned for their wax covering, but they're thin and sufficient to do the job. The Snowdonia Cheese Company stuff is bomb-proof.

I'm not the only one thinking this, surely?
