How The Other Half Live (continued)

Here are some shots I took at the Monaco Boat show of a few years ago. Not sure about you, but I find Monaco hideously tacky, especially when viewed from the harbour. It's like some 3rd world shanty town with monstrous 60's tenements.

And my personal favourite:

Well, there goes some romantic illusions about what Monaco looks like. And I love it....

Braja: Give me Nice anytime, despite all the dog poo on the streets.

That kind of hideous I can definitely cope with. Especially from the back of the Lady Christina. I thought I might have spotted my sister hanging her washing out the window of one of those tacky tenements?

Belle: Ugh! Nasty place. A bit like the worse parts of Birmingham.

The 'worse' parts of Birmingham? tut tut
Still. I'd rather hang around the world's richest little country than Birmingham...

I have this overwhelming urge to sing the US Navy song "Anchors Away"...don't ask.

Monaco is sooooo ugly - that is probably why the exiles buy mega yachts in order to escape the place!

Chairman Bill said...

Dragon: At last, someone who agrees the place is dire. You'd need to pay only 5% tax in order to be persuaded to live there in the first place.

Never been to Monaco, but if it's like Nice then you are correct - it is overrated.

I like your last pic. It somehow reminds me of sharks all lined up for the kill.

Chairman Bill said...

Dave: And you can see a couple of real sharks (yacht brokers) on the bow of the nearest vessel.

Great images.

Yes, my parents were disappointed with Monaco. To me, it brings back the glory days of Eurovision and that show with Patrick Wayne.

I loved Nice, Monaco (apart from the old town) I could take or leave...

The Cote d'Azur is full of its faded glamour and beauty, and there are still stunning scenes to find...

You are so right about all that is Monagesque, though Sir...
