Lefties

I'm waiting for the government and their propaganda machine (Daily Mail, Express and Sun) to start attacking lefty fire brigades and the lefty Health & Safety Executive over the state of this barge, the Bibby Stockholm, for asylum applicants.

Seems everyone except certain Cabinet members are lefty. Given the number of institutions and organisations being called lefty, the inescapable conclusion is that the Conservatives must be so far to the right that there is no-one further to the right of them and everyone is therefore a lefty.

For Grant Shapps to contradict the expert opinion of fire brigades just takes the biscuit. The bloody thing doesn't even have lifejackets, for God's sake. Naturally, I'd rather Grant Shapps checked my house for fire risks than an expert in fire risks - you know, a person who actually fights fires for a living and sees what causes them. I'd also want his advice on how to adding sewage to watercourses is good for water quality, not to mention advice on improving inner-city clean air by increasing car traffic and how to mitigate the effects of climate change by ramping up oil and gas production.

Yes, the barge has been used before in Germany, but the government is cramming it with more than twice the number of people the Germans did.

It's getting beyond farce now with this corrupt and incompetent government.

Having seen photos of the inside, it does look quite nice though.

I'd like to know how much it costs to house migrants on an accommodation barge rather than a land-based structure. It has to be more what with water and sewage services and extra security to stop people falling overboard and higher insurance costs and transport links.

Just when I thought it wasn't possible to feel more ashamed of being British.

Having spent many years conducting safety inspections (Class. Flag State. P$I. H%M.) Id love to know how all those bodies are reacting to this.

@RannedomThoughts. Assuming the thing is still properly insured etc. I doubt it with that load of cowboys.
