Spot -On 2

Turns out the spot welder is 15A, so it works fine on the garage supply without the need for a 32A supply. None of the circuit trips crash out, so nothing to worry about.

Found the right timing for the timer - about 0.6 seconds for 1.2mm steel. Perhaps a tad less for 0.9mm, which is the thickness of most of the panels on the GT6. As you can see from the above photo, it easily survived the 'put it in a vice and hammer it' bend test.

I have a piece of 0.9mm on order, along with a pneumatic nibbler, so I can practice before going gung-ho on the rear wing.

The only problem is that, due to it being rather old, the damned thing weighs an absolute ton. It's easy doing a spot weld on a test piece on the floor, but wielding a heavy bit of machinery in mid air is a different thing and requires three arms. I'll need to make some sort of rig to support it in position as I spot weld along a join. In car factories they're on huge, piston powered arms that take the weight. The only thing I can think of is using the engine hoist. Anyone out there with some cost-effective ideas?

By the way, captured this on the dashcam when I went to collect the chassis on Saturday.

A motorhome towing a caravan. Overkill, or what?
